On being given the task of putting forward the name of the character I could relate myself to the most, I spitted out ‘Ted Mosby’ from the American Television series – “How I Met Your Mother” (HIMYM), in a matter of a few seconds. The series is also my favourite. And so is Ted.
Yes, during my journey of conveniently finishing the 9 seasons of this sitcom, at my own slow pace, I never failed to find similarities between the character played by Josh Radnor, and myself. Just by the way, Josh was born in the month of July, and so was I :P
Ted Mosby, also the protagonist, is on a quest for happiness and "The One", the woman he will marry. Ted is the most mature of the group, preferring more elegant and high class interests than the ones his friends possess. He goes to great lengths to profess his love to the women in his life, but they all falter after a while. Despite these qualities, Ted often acts immaturely, such as partaking in wild activities with Barney.
I have loved watching every single episode of HIMYM and the sitcom gave me many deja-vu moments to experience, specifically because of the adorable Ted. He, who has enjoyed reciting and revisiting stories of his life definitely has a good memory which helps him remember the minutest of details. This is one quality that I also possess which has surprised most of my close friends and relatives. ( P.S There exists a huge list of character traits that Ted and I cherish together :P ) The second being the habit of correcting everything people around him say. Funny indeed! So, Ted has a way with people and can swim oceans for his friends ( not literally :P), he can be seen going out of his way to help others, to see them happy, sometimes also at the cost of his love and emotions. He is caring, sweet, sentimental, and an over-thinker. Many viewers also call him the confused personality of the show, who has not accomplished a very smooth relationship life. Being dumped by Stella, at the altar on the day of his wedding becomes one major setback in his life. Despite everything, he is smart, ambitious and an opportunist.
After knowing Ted throughout HIMYM, I can only mentally Hi-5 him several times as watching him grow and develop as a character, I found a reflection of mine in him. It was a treat to watch him finally become the man behind anybody and everybody’s smile.
